We are partnering with Emma Neville, to discuss the mystery of the Menopause, and share some tools to help you navigate it’s challenges (More on Emma Here)
Emma is a person centred counsellor & Menopause coach, who experienced an early Menopause aged 40 (the average age for a woman to start the menopause in the UK is 51!) Receiving this diagnosis encouraged Emma to research the topic, gain an understanding of what is really involved, & study to be a menopause coach.
She will share the practices she developed to overcome the obstacles she experienced whilst going through this change, & help us understand that we have to take ownership in understanding our own bodies more.
Our usual Breathwork and Ice Bath session will follow Emma’s talk, a powerful combination in combatting many of the symptoms of the Peri Menopause and Menopause.
Recently, a study of more than 1100 women (785 of them in menopause) was published showing that menopausal women found that cold water swimming helped relieve a host of their symptoms, including lessened anxiety (47%), improved mood swings (35%), elevated low mood (31%), and improved hot flashes (30 percent). The majority of them (63%) reported swimming specifically to relieve their symptoms.
“Cold water has previously been found to improve mood and reduce stress in outdoor swimmers, and ice baths have long been used to aid athletes’ muscle repair and recovery,” said senior author, professor Joyce Harper in a press release. “The majority of women swim to relieve symptoms such as anxiety, mood swings and hot flushes. They felt that their symptoms were helped by the physical and mental effects of the cold water, which was more pronounced when it was colder.”
You have to experience for yourself the feeling after just one session, so don't take our word for it, try it for yourself and we guarantee you'll be back every week!
Hate the cold? In fact taking ice baths increases your resistance to cold, so overall, and over time, you'll find yourself less affected by cold conditions. Even people that hate the cold usually don't find sitting in the ice half as bad as they expected - it's really mind over matter, and we're here to guide you through the sessions mindfully.
Come wearing your comfy clothes (come in your pyjamas if you like!), bring your swimwear and a towel, and something warm to wrap up in afterwards - a flask of coffee or a warm drink could also be a good idea.
The session will involve a talk by Emma and energising Breathwork, followed by time to sit in the ice, remember this isn't a competition, so do what you feel you can on the day!
Please remember to arrive at the latest 10 minutes before the start time, to allow enough time for us to collect you, and take you to the rooftop.
